What to expect

Your visit, step by step

  1. 1

    Before

    • Come with a clean face, or plan to take off your makeup when you arrive. Tell us about any medicines and supplements you take. Some, like aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil, can make bruising more likely, but don't stop a prescribed medicine without asking the doctor who prescribed it. If you have an event coming up, book at least two weeks ahead so any swelling has time to settle.
  2. 2

    During

    • Your injector asks what you'd like to change and recommends the product and amount for each area. We can apply a numbing cream first, and most of the fillers we use contain lidocaine, a numbing medicine. Most people feel a pinch with each injection; the lips are the most sensitive area. Most appointments take 30–45 minutes.
  3. 3

    After

    • Bruising, swelling, redness, itching or tenderness at the injection sites can happen. You'll see the result straight away, though swelling can hide it for the first few days. Skip makeup for 12 hours, and avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and lots of sun or heat for 24 hours. Fillers in the lips and around the mouth can last 6 months to a year; Radiesse and Juvéderm Voluma can last more than a year.
